Privacy Policy

Last updated: 21 August 2026. This explains what data checkepcrating.co.uk collects when you use the site, and why.

The EPC checker tool

When you search a postcode, it's sent to our server to look up the matching EPC record and, for England/Wales searches, passed on to the official government EPC Register API. We do not store the postcodes you search or link them to you in any way. Standard web server logs may briefly record IP addresses and request details for security and abuse-prevention purposes, in line with our hosting provider's normal logging practices, and are not used to build a profile of your searches.

The contact form

If you use the contact form, we collect the name, email address, and message you provide, solely to respond to your enquiry. We don't add you to a mailing list or share this with third parties. We keep contact-form emails only as long as needed to resolve the enquiry.

Cookies

See our Cookie Policy for full detail. In short: we only set a cookie to remember your cookie-consent choice. We currently don't run analytics or advertising cookies — if that changes, this policy and the cookie banner will be updated first, and non-essential cookies will only load after you consent.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR, you can ask what personal data we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, or object to how it's used. To do any of this, contact us via the contact page or email hello@checkepcrating.co.uk. You can also complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk) if you believe your data has been mishandled.

Third-party data

EPC data itself comes from the UK Government's official EPC Register (and, for Scottish postcodes, we link out to the separate Scottish EPC Register rather than displaying data ourselves) — see our About page for how that works. We don't control how those government services handle data on their own sites.

Changes to this policy

We'll update the date at the top of this page whenever this policy changes materially.

This policy is a general description of our practices and isn't a substitute for independent legal advice.
